MD Admissions

NYU Grossman School of Medicine is proud to award all students enrolled in our MD degree program Full-Tuition Scholarships as part of our tuition-free initiative, so that any student can pursue the dream of becoming a physician without the burden of overwhelming student debt. We award Full-Tuition Scholarships to all current students and future matriculated students, regardless of merit or financial need, that cover the majority of the cost of attendance, provided each student maintains satisfactory academic progress in accordance with NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.

Our Mission

At NYU Grossman School of Medicine, we strive to recruit and accept a diverse, academically talented, and interpersonally gifted student body with the collective ability and desire to deliver excellence in clinical care, research, and medical education to all members of the diverse patient populations we serve. The admissions committee strives to identify applicants we believe are poised to become tomorrow’s physician leaders. We are interested in applicants who are committed to meeting the needs of our patients, community, and the medical profession at large, as well as those prepared to thrive in our culture of excellence.

We believe our Full-Tuition Scholarship initiative will lead to better patient care and will benefit society as a whole by turning the best and brightest future physicians into leaders with the potential to transform healthcare.

As a student at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, you complete your studies in one of the most vibrant and inspiring urban classrooms—New York City. While here, you have access to patients from around the world and to the most advanced research and clinical facilities.

Our curriculum for the 21st century empowers you to adapt your medical training to your educational goals and prepares you for a broad range of careers in medicine. In addition to our MD degree and dual MD/master’s degrees, you can pursue our pioneering accelerated three-year MD pathway.

Holistic Review of Applications

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is reflected in our holistic review of MD applications. Research has shown that diversity among students, faculty, and working physicians improves not only medical education but also patient care.

When you apply to our MD degree program, we consider your life experience and service to others alongside your academic and leadership achievements. If you’re invited for an interview, you participate in multiple mini interviews, in which you meet with several interviewers, rather than just one.

Our admissions committee embraces the broad definition of diversity endorsed by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and uses a holistic approach to evaluate a wide range of student qualities and life experiences that are complementary to demonstrated academic excellence, strong interpersonal skills, and leadership potential.

The goal of holistic review is to gain a balanced view of all applicants’ capabilities. We want to know how you might perform as a medical student and what you might contribute to medicine.
